CCTV to FTP - Construction Progress

Many construction companies face the problem of how to photograph a construction site so that a complete archive of photographs from the beginning to the end of construction is preserved. Typically, this task is handled by installing CCTV cameras set to automatically take photos and upload them to an FTP server. The camera takes photos at regular intervals, such as one photo every 10 minutes. This archive of photographs allows you to view the entire history of what happened on the site, which is important for resolving disputes with contractors and material suppliers. By reviewing the archive of photographs, you can monitor the quality and consistency of work, compare the number of workers entering the site with the numbers in contracts, control work schedules, and ensure workers' protective equipment.

However, the classic method of storing photos on an FTP has several disadvantages. Files from CCTV are loaded into a complex multi-level directory structure; it is not easy to determine the date the photo was taken just by looking at the file name without a path to it. FTP does not allow you to view images first, and you have to download them to your computer. If the FTP runs out of space, the camera does not receive a notification, and the photos will simply be lost.

To avoid this, we have developed a special FTPi server. This is a classic FTP to which you can connect a camera, but the server runs a program that enhances the way photographs are handled. When a photo from a camera arrives on the server, it is automatically renamed to a human-readable name: Year_Month_Day_Hour_Minute_Second.jpg. The photo is immediately sent to cloud disk storage where all photos are accessible through a convenient interface with a calendar. You just need to select a date, and you will see a timeline of photos for the entire day. It is very easy to view the archive for the entire construction period on a computer in a browser or in a mobile application.
